Our Purpose
The purpose of the United Church of Christ of California is to worship God, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to celebrate the sacraments. As a congregation, we promote Christian fellowship, give loving service toward others, and strive for righteousness, justice and peace at home and abroad. (From the constitution for the United Church of Christ of California, MO)
The Apostles’ Creed is a summary of what we believe.
We believe Jesus is God’s Son who literally rose from the dead in bodily form. He is the Savior to those who will receive him as Lord. He forgives us of our sin, and is the example for living. Jesus, as the Son of God, is the foundation upon which all we preach and teach finds authority and meaning.
We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God “a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.” (2 Timothy 3:16 and
Psalms 119:105)
We believe that forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as their Lord and Savior. (John 3:16)
We believe that those accepting Christ should believe in Jesus, repent of their sin, confess their faith, and be baptized. (Romans 10:9 and Acts 2:38)
We believe that those following Christ should strive to live a life worthy of the calling they have received, making every effort to keep unity of the Spirit. (Ephesians 4:1-6)
We believe the Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and exists to evangelize the lost and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
In essentials we seek unity, in non-essentials we allow liberty; In all things love.
